Argentine striker Sebastien Tagliabue is keen to wrest the UAE Pro League title from Ghanaian goal wizard Asamoah Gyan.
The 28-year-old arrived in the Pro League from Saudi side Al Shabab and has netted four time in his first three games for Al Wahda including a brace against Emirates FC.
Asamoah Gyan has already made a statement of intent with an swashbuckling double brace against Al Dhafra and Ajman as he seeks to claim a hat-trick goal-king gong.
But Tagliabue, who won the Saudi Pro League top-scorer award with 19 goals last season also has other ideas and is determined to beat Gyan who netted 31 times to win the award beating Brazilian Grafite to the award.
“My target is 35 goals because last year he scored a total of 31,” he said. ”
I scored 19 last year so I need to score much more than before.”
“Becoming Saudi top scorer last season was a great experience and now I’m more relaxed. Before, I got nervous every time I try to become a top scorer and after I miss the target I always felt it wasn’t enough. But now it feels different. I feel more confident.“
I will work hard and hope to do this but here the strikers are very good and every season it’s the same striker who tops the table. It will be very difficult but I like the challenge.”
“First, I will try to score as many goals as possible and after I will see if I can top the table, but I think this season the top scorer can change.”
