Ex-Ghana Football Association boss Nyaho Tamakloe has lauded the appointment of Akwasi Appiah as the Black Stars coach and insists he must decisive to be successful.
Appiah has been entrusted with the job on a permanent basis for the first time since he joined the Black Stars coaching staff in 2008.
He will take full charge of the team to end a three-week headhunt after Serbian trainer Goran Stevanovic was dismissed for his failure to win the 2012 African Cup of Nations.
The former Black Stars captain who commands massive respect from the players is touted as the man to end the country’s wait for an African title and the former Ghana FA chief insists he will succeed.
“Akwasi Appiah has been with the Black Stars for quite some time. He has done a lot as an assistant coach and he deserves this new position,†Tamakloe told Joy Sports.
“It’s important he get maximum support from every Ghanaian. They (FA) should make sure all the necessary benefit that they give to foreign coaches, he is accorded the same.
“To him (Appiah), he must be able to control these boys because the moment he is unable to do that, that will be the end of him.
“He must be able to take decisions and show competence in everything that he does,â€
The ever-smiling Appiah will meet the Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association to affirm details of a reported two-year deal with the Black Stars.
His first major task will be a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Lesotho in June.
