Appiah becomes 12th man to guide the Black Stars to the 2013 AFCON finals

By Patrick Akoto

Coach Kwesi Appiah has become the 12th local man to guide the Black Stars to the African Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars beat Malawi 1-0 in Lilongwe on Saturay to complete a comprehensive 3-0 aggregrate win.

Parma youngster Afriyie Acquah slotted home the only goal of the match in the 2nd minute to help the Ghanaians qualify to the Cup of Nations to be held in South Africa next year.

The former Ghana captain joins ex-greats including CK Gyamfi, Emmanuel Kwesi Afranie, Aggrey Fynn, Fred Osam Duodu, Herbet Addo, Sam Arday, Cecil Jones Attuquayefio and E.J. Aggrey-Fynn amongst others to have achieved the feat.

Appiah will be required to craft a formidable squad that will be capable of ending their 31-year wait for an African crown.

Ghana last won the African Cup of Nations in 1982.

ONE DOWN, ONE MORE TO GO

Can’t wait to see Appiah lead Ghana to the W/C. That’ll mean more to me. All the same, I salute coach Appiah and his assistant Konadu for a good job done. Malawi is a tough place to win. Egypt and co had fallen there before in recent times. A very good one there guys.

Before the match some people were making all kind of unnecessary noise about coach MRAA, where are they now? Men with little faith who never appreciate any valuable thing.

      @KojoLee:

We needed this win in Ndola! As for this one, even a draw would have been ok…it is the world cup we need more!

What is the use if coach MRAA even wins the AFCON and we don’t qualify for the world cup?…it will mean nothing— village champions like Egypt! Even though they have won the AFCON a record 6 times, where and how are they placed in Africa and the world now?

Even Cote D’Ivoire who has won just once are regarded as a powerhouse in Africa! The world cup is the real deal…and we better get there…not being village champions (in Africa) and losing to or drawing with teams like China, etc.

the referee for this game will do a good job as a judo or karate referee but not football. he was just terrible terrible terrible he is a seriuos object of ridicule for african referees

  4. Maxwell Johnson says:

@Dj exactly my bro, and its amazing the game ended with no card been showed to any player. Looks like the referee forgot his cards in the dressing room lol, he is a disgrace to African football.

  5. Frank says:

Its a great honour to see de black maidens win de bronze medal @ de world stage. Kudos to coach Appiah n his boiz, but our cry is not to qualify but to win de AFCON, cos it been long since we won it.

  6. Paa Jim says:

Well done Mr.A.Appiah and well done to the Black Stars too. The Boys should start shooting from all angels straight in to the Goal.

  7. Samson Tabiri says:

The name is Kwesi Appiah. Not Akwasi Appiah

  8. bawah says:
