Ghana midfielder Anthony Annan came off the Schalke 04 bench to make his debut in the German Bundesliga this season in their 3-1 home triumph over Eintracht Braunschweig on Saturday evening.

The 26-year-old replaced Julian Draxler ten minutes from time as the Royal Blues cruised to a comfortable 3-1 win over bottom-placed Eintracht Braunschweig at the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen.

Annan enjoyed his first playing minutes of the season during the mid-week when he came off the bench at the Santiago Bernabao in their Schalke’s 3-1 defeat against Real Madrid in the Uefa Champions League.

For the former Hearts of Oak midfielder, the string of second-half cameos come good as Ghana coach James Kwesi Appiah gets prepared to name his provisional 30-man squad for the 2014 World Cup.

Annan has been away from international for close to two years with injuries and inconsistencies at club level.

But he could return to international duty if Kwesi Appiah finds his recent form good enough and particularly if he does not receive good news on Russia-based midfielder Rabiu Mohammed who has been out for a couple of months with injury.

Annan’s international team-mate Kevin-Prince Boateng lasted the entire duration of the game for Schalke who have moved to third on the Bundesliga section with their win on Saturday.

I keep on saying that Annan deserves to be in Brazil! He’s better and much tactical than Badu and Rabiu not to talk of his experience as a player.Annan is fighting for regular playing time with our own k.Boateng and Neustàdster who is a Germany international unlike Rabiu and Badu who are battling with average players but can’t still command a regular place in their respective clubs. Waris can’t stop scoring. He has scored 2 goals with their match with ajaccio.match is still ongoing

  2. samva says:

well he could have gone on loan to a place where he could get more playing time.i personally think its too late now.

  3. ns3mfoo ahi says:

Salacious, we are in need of in form players, who told you Badu is battling with average players, how good did Annan perform at Osasuna? We are going to Brazil with Badu, if not Rabiu then Afriyie Acquah will come. Check your facts before you make a comment (advice)

    • OGYA says:

ns3mfoo ahi, What do you mean by inform player. I just want you Ghanaians to explain to me what that phrase mean. I do not believe even Akwesi Appiah understands what that phrase mean. It is stupid to think as soon as a player comes of the bench and scores then all of a sudden that player is inform. Or if a player plays for a few minutes but scores then all of a sudden he is in top form.

What a bunch of crap Ghanaians are full off. We need players who have experience, play consistently and the intelligence to hold and pass the ball accurately when they get it. If you played in the last world cup and you are accustomed to that environment, play partially at club level, then you should be given the opportunity to play.

    waris is lethal.

@asemfoo u gotta check ur facts rather! Badu has been in and out of the udinese starting 11.as for Rabiu when was the last time he played a club football? Afriyie what? Duncan and frimpong are far better than Afriyie. Annan didn’t get his Chance at osasuna and believe Badu won’t even make it to the schalke bench.Yeah Annan and a former hearts of oak player so I won’t be surprised if he doesn’t make it to brasil, assuming he was ex kotoko…..

  6. Benito says:

Please don’t bring your hearts and kotoko rivalry here,we are talking about black stars, period!!Annan certainly deserves to go to Brazil if he keeps playing regularly, very tactical player

My beloved brother sabaciuos i have to dissagree with you on this one.
Saying is an average player is out of the question.
Badu will definately make the schalke bench or even with a lil bit hard work and luck he can break in the schalke team.
Annan not breaking into the schalke team was not because of injury but rather because of the system schalke players.
Annans main problem to is the scoring of goals.
Ask yourself why he was loaned to osasuna and vitesse arnheim respectively?
It was because schalke have or had the likes of roman neustädter, leon Goretzka, jermaine jones(now with besiktas instabul),marvin matip who can also play in defensive midfield and the young turk Ayhan.
All these players are capable of scoring and that cant be said of annan.
That doesnt meean annan is a bad player.
Magath is a old fashioned trainer who bought annan so he used annan as a natural traditional holding midfield so annan had to only concerntrate on his defensive job.
Under ralf rangnick who left schalke because of depression, annan played a bit part role.
Huub stevens the current coach of stuttgart was the one that loaned to vitesse and osasuna.
Annan is not a goalscorong midfield and in todays modern game evety coach expects a defensive midfielder to score at least 3 goals in a season.
Badus andavantage over annan is,badu can score goals and thats what is needed of midfielder today in modern soccer.

    • LeShaq says:

yeah, Badu can score in doing he leaves the midfield porus for the team to concede two goals. This is not the kind of defensive midfielders we need who can not stick to roles assign them. Annan stick to his role very well that is why when he got injured, Rabiu slotted in easily whiles Badu was still on the bench.

  8. Man power A.K.A PITO says:

Real Sabacious and your old hatred of Agyemang Badu no matter what this fine player does. Badu may not be a better defensive holding midfielder like Annan. BUT Badu is better going forward and attacking. Pair Badu with a good holding midifelder and it is game!
Annan can’t shoot to save his life just like mikel obi.

But its all love.in real life im a chemist.

  13. kuukuphilly says:

U guys have to understand that if it was not for his injury woes annan will be one of the untouchables in the black stars.besides wakaso who else brings the fierce to the opponent in the midfield.

  14. thesalonika says:

It is common knowledge. Annan is above Agyemang Badu. Despite the latter’s scoring advantage, he is not a skillful player. But count on Pablo with his skills. In any case, has Annan not been scoring some brilliant goals? Check Ghana versus Malawi at Kumasi Stadium. You people should not be comparing apples with oranges. Annan is better, period.
