Ebusua Dwarfs coach JE Sarpong has vowed to ruthlessly deal with journalists who have taken antagonistic stance against his team as crisis in the noble profession deepens.

The outspoken trainer is incensed with claims of antagonism towards himself and his team and has warned he will deal with journalists who cross his path.

He feels his team has been unfairly targeted at by some journalists in Cape Coast and will not sit aloof to allow such negative criticisms to affect his side’s promotional drive.

“I am bewildered by the sort of journalism some media people in Cape Coast do. It is certainly way below the standard of what transpires in Accra,” he told Accra-based Happy FM

“I want to state emphatically that if any journalist tries to cross my path, I will deal with him. Some of them are not professional enough and they must go and learn; even though most of them are doing a good job here in Cape Coast.

“These journalists I am talking about never offer constructive criticisms. All they do is to throw vituperations at the team. They even go to the extent of saying the club wins games due to the help they receive from referees.

Sarpong’s latest outburst has again brought to the fore claims of unprofessionalism that has bedeviled the profession in the West African country.

Minister of Youth and Sports Mahama Ayariga has been up in arms with Ghanaian journalists in recent times and accused them of asking ‘useless’ questions in their bid to figure out the budgetary allocation for the Black Stars ahead of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

One of the country’s leading sports hacks Kwabena Yeboah widened the debate over the state of sports journalism in the country by slamming the growing number of ‘charlatans’ masquerading as sports journalists and shockingly revealed that some of them are ‘extortionists’.
