Olympique Marseille have announced winger Andre Ayew will not be on the trip to Ajaccio in the French Ligue 1 on Friday because of his shoulder injury.

The 22-year-old has been playing through the pain on the problem he picked up at the 2012 Nations Cup.

The Ghana international has postponed surgery till the end of the season.

Marseille coach Didier Deschamps wants the midfielder to be available for next week’s crucial UEFA Champions League round 16 return leg tie at Inter Milan.

“He will not be there because his shoulder hurts,” Deschamps told the club’s website.

“This is because we want him to carefully go through the season and avoid a situation where he cannot play again.

“He will be back for the Champions League game against Inter,” he added.

Marseille have hugely relied on the former Ghana Under-20 captain.
