Andre Ayew not inspired by Beckham

Andre Ayew says English legend David Beckham is not his idol

By Akyereko Frimpong Manson

Ghana winger Andre Ayew admits English legend David Beckham is a great player but claims he was not inspired by the Ligue 1′s grandfather.

The Marseille playmaker could come face-to-face with Beckham (37) who is on a five-month short term contract with the French money-bags at the Parc des Princes as Marseille clash with PSG on Sunday.

At just 23, Andre has won the BBC African player of the Year, became the first captain to lead an African side to success at the Fifa U20 World Cup and has also made a World Cup appearance after playing at the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa.

Beckham is one of the world’s most decorated footballers after winning several club and individual awards.

Andre admits the prospects of playing against the Manchester United legend could be an honour but he never really dreamt about playing against him.

“This is a great player. When I was young, I watched on TV, I saw him do great things and win big trophies but this is not my idol. It was not a dream to play against him,” he told OM.net.

Andre has been voted Marseille’s player of the month of January and is also in contention for Ligue 1 player of the month award.

You are right, he should instead think about what he will do when they meet and not running his mouth, David does not even know you and you should concentrate on achieving half of what he has done in his career and if you are a goos footballer try and play in Spain, Italy or England then you will have my respect, but for now just shut your mouth and play.

Everyone has their own opinion and idol…..theres nothing wrong with what he said. He acknowledged that Beck was a great player and he watched him on T.V… its not a must that he has to idol him.
