American clubs are fighting to sign Michael Essien

Ghana midfielder Michael Essien is considering offers from American Major Soccer League sides, according to reports in the British press.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has stated the door is opened for the the 31-year-old Ghana star to leave the Stamford Bridge and this has alerted American clubs.

Mourinho’s comment has alerted ambitious Major Soccer League sides and have all tabled offers for him.

But Essien wants to move to a more competitive league and is eying a move to Italy or a return to France to join Paris Saint-Germain.

Mega rich Middle East clubs would also try to lure the former Lyon star to the region to boost the image of their league.
