All Streets And Homes To Be Named By End Of Mills' 2nd Term - Veep

The Vice President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has boldly stated that every street and home in Ghana will be named before President Mills leaves office.

Mr. Mahama was speaking at the launch of a 40 million Euro Ghana Urban Management Pilot Project in the Volta region, Monday.

The multimedia million dollar project is meant to provide a raft of infrastructure for four cities including Ho, Tamale, Kumasi and Sekondi-Takoradi.

Mr. Mahama said the importance of a proper and reliable address system in Ghana can?t be underestimated.

?It is my hope that before the end of the second term of President John Evans Atta Mills every city in Ghana would have proper house numbers and street names and you should be able to find any address you want without any difficulty? John Mahama said.

For his part, the minister of local government and rural development, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo said majority of the infrastructure projects in all the four cities will be geared towards dealing with waste and sanitation concerns.

Meanwhile, the Department of town and country planning says it is feasible for all major streets and cities in the country to be named.

In an interview with XYZ News, the senior planning officer at the town and country planning, Mohammed Alhasan underscored the relevance of street naming.

He said street naming amongst other benefits helps in the identifications of individual for financial credit purposes.
