Middlesbrough look likely to avoid a damaging African Cup of Nations exodus in January with Ghana winger Albert Adomah dropping out of the picture.

Adomah went to Brazil with the Black Stars in the summer but was a fringe figure and came on just once for a brief cameo off the bench in a 2-1 defeat to the USA.

Ghana suffered a squad revolt against their backroom staff in Brazil and on their return the entire management was sacked.

And since new boss Avram Grant took over Adomah has not been selected and did not play in the last round of qualifying games.

It is not out of the question he could yet be called up for the finals but Grant has shown no interest so far.

Meanwhile, Equitorial Guinea have been parachuted into the competition as emergency hosts as Morocco withdrew over Ebola fears.
