James Kwasi Appiah picked up the Coach of the Year award at the 37th edition of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana Awards night on Saturday.
The 52-year-old was rewarded for his impressive works with the Ghana U-23 team at the 2011 All Africa Games where the Black Meteors won an historic gold medal.
Appiah who was then assistant coach of the Black Stars was asked to take over the team in an emergency call at a point the side was on the verge of being kicked out of the qualification series for the games.
And after expertly dispatching Nigeria in the two-leg ultimate qualifier, the former Ghana captain led his charges to conquer all in Maputo, Mozambique to claim Ghana’s first ever gold medal.
He reverted to his substantive job with the Black Stars where he helped Goran Stevanovic to lead the Black Stars to a semi final finish at the 2012 Nations Cup – a disappointing feat that led to the dismissal of the Serb.
Appiah was then appointed as the substantive replacement for Stevanovic late April and was impressive on his debut beating Lesotho 7-0 in the 2014 World Cup qualifier.
HE DOSENT DESERVE THE AWARD. MAXWELL KONADU SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN THE AWARD. MAXWELL, WHY U DIDNT STAY AT KOTOKO TO AT LEAST TAKE THEM TO CAF BEATS ME. WHY R U RUSHING? I TOLD U DO NOT WORK WITH ALWASI APPIAH, BUT U DONT LISTEN.
did u read the article well and understood it?….aint his achievement somehow bigger than winning the local league and nothing else.
I told u so…kumasi coach cannot take us anywhere,GFA = Chop Chop,Ghana fans wise up
@inferior ansong, where u ar 4rm has been regarded as the most inferior of all ethnics in dis country, hw can u compare ur sick, impoverished region 2 de mighty ashantes, ur region is cursed and it wl take time for such thwarts like u people 2 see daylight. Wo maaaame twe maggotic, inferior , gyimigyimii fante nil, that ugly foolish president being the biggest idiotic president de country has ever produced, a foolish being 4rm de funniest and foolish tribe in Ghana
i think we shouldnt have sacked Milo, it was a big mistake the GFA made by sackinmg him, at least he knows how to read a game come out we a good game plan for every match. i’m very disappointed with Akwasi Appiah.
1. HW3, HE DOSENT KNOW HOW TO MASSAGE THE HUGE EGOS OF THESE PLAYERS? LOOK AT HOW INDISCIPLINE N WAYWARD THESE PLAYERS ARE? IT SEEMS LIKE APPIAH IS A BAD OMEN FOR THE TEAM. HIS IDEAS ARE PRIMITVE. HE NEEDS TO GO N COACH CHAN.
2. HE LACKS THE ABILITY TO PREPARE, AND DRAW TACTICAL STRATEGIES THAT WILL REAP SUCCESS
3. IN TERMS OF EXPERIENCE HIS BODY OF WORK IS VERY LITTLE. HE HAS NO CONSISTENCY
DESAILLY NEEDS TO BE BROUGHT IN ASAP. ITS NOT TOO LATE. KONADU MUST GO BACK TO FINISH WAT HE STARTED WITH KOTOKO. SILAS TETTEH SHOULD GET THE METEOR/SATTELITES JOB. LET ALL THESE NATIONAL COACHES HAVE REGULAR SHADOW WITH THE NATIONAL TEAM COACH.
EVEN IF WE QUALIFY TO BRAZIL. AKWASI’S RECORD ALONE WILL DO US IN. HE SIMPLY LACKS THE ABILITY TO TAKE GH TO THE NEXT LEVEL, WHERE WE OUGHT TO BE SIMPLY BECOS HE NEVER REACHED THERE HIMSELF AS A PLAYER. HE IS TOTALLY OBLIVIOUS TO THAT.
