Akunnor took Bobbie Ansah decision - Hearts

Posted On Friday, 22nd February 2013

Hearts of Oak have explained the departure of defender Bobbie Ansah

C K Akunnor recommended the axing of defender Bobbie Ansah during his tenure at Hearts, the club has revealed.

The 21-year-old left the 19-time Ghanaian champions at the end of the season to join rivals Asante Kotoko and was hugely successful in their Caf Champions League victory over Sony Ela Nguema last Sunday.

Hearts fans are furious over the departure of the former King Faisal full-back and are demanding answers from management.

However Hearts communication director Muheed Saeed says the Bobbie’s departure from the capital was a technical decision taken by former Ghana captain C K Akunnor who was their coach last season.

“It was a technical decision taken by the coach (Akunnor) because at the end of the season every coach submits the players he wants to work with and it resulted in that,” he told Accra-based Peace FM.

Hearts are battling to shoot themselves out of the relegation zone and are aiming to open their second round with a victory over King Faisal on Sunday.

  1. Fresher says:

if Hearts of Oaks can’t thank
CK Akkunour or acknowledge his contribution the club, they should at least spare CK Akkunour reputation and stop scapegoating him. Hearts of Oaks led Bobbie Ansah left the club as a free agent due to contractual disputes, not because of how his re-signing on fee would be spread out but because of excessive ethnocentric new direction the club is being run to, look at Owusu Sefah and the other players from Ashanti Region cases for example, the players were unduly sent out of Hearts of Oaks because Ethnocentric motives not because non performance or CK Akkunour recommended that they should be sacked because he couldn’t work with the said players. Muheeb Saeed should come again with the actual reason why these talented players were sent out of Hearts of Oaks for viciously-cynical and Ethnocentric motives.

  2. KT says:

GSN, call Mr. Abra-Appiah of the PLB and verify this thing. Hearts is 20 time league champions. This issue was settled on Asempa FM last year. Now Fresher, are you saying Hearts of Oak is dominated by a certain tribe? And that Ashantis or Akans are not allowed here? Tell us. Educate us.

    • kofi says:

please hearts are 19 times league champions and not 20. kotoko are 21 times champions and not 22. it’s a difference of 2 league titles between kotoko and hearts.

      • KT says:

I’m not saying it. There was confusion about it on radio last year. Thomas Freeman Yeboah of Asempa FM brought the facts to bare. Mr. Welbeck Abra-Appiah later cross-checked and corroborated it. And even WIkipedia and other foreign websites have captured it that way. I dont blame GSN much, afterall, Hearts of Oak website also had it wrong.

  3. Fresher says:

@ KT- I meant players of a certain tribal extraction are being hounded out of Hearts of Oaks and you are well aware of that vicious plot. If Kofi Agyare’s contract was cancelled because He had defended himself by saying that Hearts of Oaks did tried to bribe him to play it soft so that his club could lose against H.O. OAKS some years back when he was a player of a rival club so that Hearts of Oaks could go away with a victory, it was a damaging allegations which Hearts of Oaks knew to be true because they did not issue any investigation to that allegations or whatsoever, what are the sins of Akwesi Bobbie Ansah, Owusu Sefa, Godwin Osei Bonsu and some players who from the same tribal extraction with these aforementioned players who were unduly sacked even though they are all very good essential materials who could have helped Hearts of Oaks in many ways?

  4. KT says:

Fresher, I dont know, but what is the plot, make it clear. As far as I know Hearts is not a club for any ethic group, unlike some other clubs that are. It is an elitist, professional group. Though I’m not in favour of Bobie Ansah’s axing, as well as the other who formed a core part of that inpregnable defence, CK was the coach and he felt he couldnt use them. He ssacked them, and the team got worse, so the Chairman sacked him too. That is how soccer goes. Lets stick to it that way. Emmanuel Osei Kuffour is Ashanti, and I dont think Charles Taylor was Ga. Neither was Mohammed polo, or Robert Sarbah or Owusu Afriyie. Joe Fameyeh and Agyeman Duah were also not Ga… I just mentioned some of the Phobia gods. So tell us, where are you coming from. Show us the root of any sort of ethnocentrism or tribalism, because it goes on, the club will die. Show us, so we can uproot it

  5. Hearts Eleven says:

It gives me so much displeasure to see “Fresher” harp on about Hearts being anti-a-certain-tribe. That is false. You are dragging the name of Accra Hearts of Oak through mud. Bobie Ansah was never preferred under CK Akunnor, Ernest Ackon a defensive midfielder filled that spot for Hearts most of the time under Akonnor. Bobie was a good player going forward but he was suspect defensively. They will soon find that out at Kotoko. But to say there’s an agenda to clear some tribe from the team is very spurious.
Kofi Agyare wrote an apology to Hearts for that indictment; it is the prerogative of Hearts to sack a player with that record. If not for the poor state of affairs in this country, Kofi Agyare should have been tried and sent to jail if he took out money to change the outcome of a game.
And please, when was the last time you saw Godwin Osei Bonsu in action for Hearts? Talk to the man, and he will admit he has lost form. Nuru Sulley and Robin Gnagne, though not the complete package, have been far better defensively than Bonsu. Is that tribalism, ethnocentrism, or discrimination? Please you have every right to have an opinion of our dear Club but you can not make sweeping indictments of a 100+ year institution. Thank you.

  6. Hearts Eleven says:

And I forgot, Owusu Sefa’s reckless challenge against Liberty that got him sent off in CK Akonnor’s first game for Hearts – 10-man Hearts lost that game narrowly at home. It was so unnecessary and he lost his position to the Burkinabe import, Soulama Ahmed/ali;if Ck never won his trust again, what is wrong with putting him on transfer? How many players have come and left Hearts? CAn you count them? No, so why claim it is an agenda to clear some “tribes” out?

Credit to CK Akonnor, Hearts will not do so, but I watched every single Hearts game under his reign and I was really impressed about the team. He could not get the balance between attack & defense right, but they were a joy to watch. I wish CK the best of luck in his next assignment; I believe the Hearts job came too soon for the man.
