AIK Stockholm players have sharply criticised American referee for sending off Ghana midfielder Ibrahim Moro during their 0-0 friendly drawn game with MSL side San Jose Earthquakes on Thursday.
The Allsvenskan side had to complete the game with ten men after former New Edubiase United captain Moro was controversially sent off after a light ‘incident’ on the 40th minute mark.
The 19-year-old had to avoid crashing into San Jose midfielder and pushed him away but he was surprisingly marched off the pitch.
AIK goalkeeper Kenny Stamatopoulos expressed shock at the incident.
“It was only a little push from behind. The referee ruined the game I think, given that it is a friendly game. It’s a shame,” he said.
The Ghana U20 midfielder was equally surprised at the referee’s decision.
“Yes, I was very surprised. I pushed the player but he tried to block me. I protected myself,” he explained.
AIK are yet to win in the pre-season as they have drawn all their three warm-up games in the United States.
