Midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu is reveling in his stop-gap captaincy role as he led Ghana to secure qualification for the 2015 AFCON.

The Udinese star wore the captain’s armband in Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Togo which saw the Black Stars qualify for next year’s finals to be staged in Equatorial Guinea as winners of Group E.

Badu assumed the team’s leadership role due to the absence of Asamoah Gyan and Andre Ayew who were lost through injury.

The 23-year-old led Ghana out for the first time ever in his career in the final qualifier played in Tamale.

The 2009 U20 World Cup winner is savouring every bit of that moment as he enters the history books as the one who led the side to seal its 20th appearance at the AFCON finals.

“Proud moment captaining my country to victory and securing qualification,” he said.

“Thanks for all your support.”

Ghana will be joined by 15 other teams – including new hosts Equatorial Guinea - for the final draw for the grand tournament which will be held on December 3 in Malabo.
