Samuel Afum scored on his Swiss Super League debut but his goal was controversially ruled out for offside
Ghana attacker Samuel Afum was controversially denied a goal on his Swiss Super League at Grasshopper on Saturday.
The 22-year-old announced his presence in the Super League with a commanding performance in attack for Young Boys Bern despite their 2-0 defeat at leaders Grasshopper.
Young Boys boss Martin Rueda had the striker available for selection after Fifa issued a provisional ITC for him on Friday.
Afum set up a penalty for Young Boys but Jonah Gerndt failed to put it away as his effort was saved by the Grasshopper keeper.
The former Ghana Premier League top scorer then turned home an overhead kick after breaking the offside trap set by the hosts defence but the goal was controversially ruled off.
He was replaced after 83 minutes by Venezuela international Josef Martinez.
“When you watch the replay you see this was a clean goal because I was not in an offside position,” Afum expressed his disappointment with the decision after the game.
“It was a good debut though we couldn’t win.”
No worries, just keep on working hard the goals will surely flow.
