African legend Oppong Weah predicts semi-final berth for Black Stars

African legend George Oppong Weah has predicted a semi-final berth for Ghana at next year’s FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

The West African super house have drawn difficult opponents in group G which includes Germany, Portugal and USA.

The Black Stars are confronted with massive difficulties in their quest to attempt another history at the global piece.

But the ex-Liberian international, who remains the only African to have been crowned FIFA World Player of the Year in 1995,  is confident the Black Stars will silence the ‘doubting thomasses’.

Why not, the World Cup has already started though one would say it’s still six months away. With sustained preparation, why not? The first match is very important and, of course, yes, they will qualify ahead of Portugal and USA,” Weah told Joy FM

“Quarter final or semi final, why not, we can get there if we work hard like I said before and believe in ourselves. Yes if we believe. At the same time we’ve to work hard by preparing very well. This is World Cup, not a friendly game.

“We don’t have to say we still have time to start preparation. If we put our acts together, prepare well and have that self belief, why not, semi final is not an impossible target.

“Nobody would want to be in the same group with the hosts if it comes to choice. Brazil are the hosts and also a strong team.

“Germany are also a traditional football country. Note that we’re not afraid of them but we can only respect them and I’m sure they too will respect us.

“But it’s good we were in the same group so that when we eventually meet at some stage of the competition, Ghana would have garnered confidence.”

Ghana will open their account against USA before engaging Germany and Portugal.

Well spoken the legend. no team is going to the world cup just to add to the numbers. Nobody expected Greece to win Euro 2004 in Portugal.Footbal is about suprises. We just have to be at the right uniform, right place, and at the right time and we will move forward.

The Czech Republic that Ghana beat at the world cup was far better than this one man team of Portugal. It had the likes of Nedved who was the European best player,Peter Czech the best goal keeper and many great stars yet Ghana went past them so who is talking of us not able to beat Portugal? We will face them squarely and beat them.We will equally match Germany boot for boot.Ghana remains Africa’s true hope ahead of the other African teams at the World Cup
