African champions Zambia suffer another defeat, fall to lowly Angola

African champions Zambia stumbled to yet another defeat ahead of their title defence when they fell 2-0 to Angola in a friendly on Saturday with the AFCON in South Africa just days away.

The Chipolopolo have now recorded three straight defeats following a 1-0 loss to Tanzania on December 22 in Dar-es-Salaam and a 2-1 defeat in Dammam away to Saudi Arabia on December 5.

The highlight of the day in the midst of defeat was that influential midfielder Rainford Kalaba started for Zambia despite earlier indications that he was to be rested following his recent recovery from a three month-long layoff with a groin injury.

Angola took the lead in the 30th minute through Gerard to see the Palanca Negras take a 1-0 halftime lead in Johannesburg.

The Palancas Negras made sure of their unbeaten run in the build-up to the AFCON when 70th minute substitute Amaro sealed the victory in the 85th minute.

The African champions face Morocco next on Tuesday at Rand Stadium in a 16:00 hours kickoff in what will be the second of four build-up matches ahead of their Africa Cup title defence kick off on January 21 against Ethiopia.
