African big guns get positive Champions League start
Africa’s lions predictably thrashed the underdogs in the first leg of the African Champions League preliminary round, with a goal tally of 18-1 from just four matches.
The high scoring began on Friday when Morocco’s Raja thrashed Sierra Leone’s Diamond Stars 6-0 at homeland.
On Saturday, Tanzania’s Young Africans were too strong for Komorozine of Comoros Islands, beating them 7-0.
Egypt’s Zamalek defeated Niger’s AS Douanes 2-0 on Sunday, while Nigerian giants Enyimba defeated Togo’s Ange de Notse 3-1.
Ghanaian side Berekum Chelsea was also among the lucky ones as they also managed to sink Atlabar of South Sudan 2-0.
The prominent surprise of the first leg was the 0-2 loss of Sudanese heavyweights Al-Merreikh against Kampala City Council of Uganda.
Return legs to be played on 14-16 February.
