Senegal maintained their position at the top of Group G when they played to a 0-0 draw against Tunisia in their 2015 CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Stade Leopold Sedar in Dakar on Friday night.

The result leaves the Lions of Teranga in pole position with seven points from three matches, followed closely by Tunisia, also with seven points.

Egypt are third in the group with three points following their 2-0 win over Botswana, who remain at the bottom with zero points from their three matches.

Senegal goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul made the first save of the match in the second minute, shuffling to hi right to catch a freekick from Ali Maaloul.

In the 30th minute Ben Youssef Fakhreddine had a sight of goal but his volleyed effort missed the target.

Senegal appealed for a penalty two minutes into the second half when Yassine Chikhaoui handled the ball inside the box, but nothing was given.

A minute later Coundoul had to make another save to stop a solid header from Hamza Mathlouthi, who had done well to outjump his marker.

The Lions of Teranga had a great opportunity in the 72nd minute when Papiss Demba Cisse met a low cross from the left, only to see his shot deflected over the crossbar.

Consistent fouling and timewasting saw the game failing to produce goalmouth action in the closing stages.

The two sides will look to be sharper in the final third when they meet again in Monastir on Wednesday.
