Boro boss Aitor Karanka is delighted that Albert Adomah extended his contract last week, agreeing to stay until June 2017.

“I am very happy he’s signed a new contract,” he said.

“I said last season that Albert is more than a player. He’s a leader in the changing room, he’s a leader on the pitch and he’s an important player to have in the squad.

“He understands his role and he’s always helping the team on and off the pitch.”

Karanka believes that Adomah’s new deal sends out a positive message to the squad and to the supporters.

“It’s a good message because Albert is an important player,” he added.

“It’s a good message that Adam Reach has signed an extension because he came from the Academy, it’s a good message for everybody.”
