Ghana defender David Addy has won the hearts of Vitoria Guimaraes fans following his impressive debut over the weekend.

The 22-year-old produced the solitary strike in the 1-0 win over Moreirense to lift the side to ninth in the Portuguese top flight.

The left-back was playing just his first official game for Guimaraes following his summer switch from giants FC Porto.

Addy's overall output aside the goal was a major source of joy to the fans who believe their team have acquired a young gem to bolster their defensive ranks.

Cartoon images and avatar's of the ex Wa All Stars player dominated the front pages of Portuguese sports papers on Monday - with some of the reports blasting Porto officials for letting go the 2009 U-20 World Cup winner.

Addy hardly got a look in at Porto under manager Vitor Pereira.

He was as a result farmed out on loan twice (first to Academica Coimbra and then to Panetolikos) since his arrival from Randers FC two years ago.

He however appears to have finally gotten his club career back on track following his impressive debut on Sunday.

Addy is one of the few players from the world conquering U-20 team in 2009 that have not quite lived up to their enormous talent for a variety of reasons.
