AC Milan coach Clarence Seedorf has praised new signing Michael Essien for his enormous qualities and likened him to a warrior.

The Dutchman was appointed two weeks ago to stop Milan deteriorating form in the Serie A and he believes the Ghana international can be part of the solution.

"I know him well. He has great character and is a great player. He's a man and a warrior who really wants to make his mark ahead of the World Cup," Seedorf said.

"He’ll bring qualities both on and off the field. Essien can play very well in the two midfielders in front of the defence."

Essien has agreed an 18-month contract after being released by English side Chelsea where he spent nine years.

He was down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge this season where he made five League appearances under manager Jose Mourinho.
