AC Milan Chief Executive Adriano Galliani has no doubts new signing Michael Essien will add value to the Rossoneri.

Milan's form this term has plummeted and are in search of magician to turn around their fortunes.

The Ghana international has undergone medical at the La Madonnina clinic and set to complete his move from English Premier League side Chelsea who released him.

"Essien is an important player who has had an important career. He's reliable from a physical point of view," Galliani said.

Essien not part of Jose Mourinho’s plans for the season after making just five Premier League appearances.

He was also not registered for the Champions League Group stage matches but AC Milan are ready to give him a starting role.

Milan face Atletico Madrid in the next first knock-out round of the competition and are without suspended duo Montolivo and compatriot Sulley Muntari.

"The appeal for Montolivo’s suspension was rejected and he’ll be out for both matches. We'll be without him and Muntari for both Champions League matches and in this sense, Essien’s arrival is important," Galliani said.

"Hopefully there’ll be more surprises to come for the fans."
