Hearts of Oak midfielder Moro Abubakar was dropped from Ghana’s CHAN squad for failing to prove his fitness according to media reports.

The 22-year-old was one of the surprise casualties when the final 23-man squad was made for the tournament last week.

Coach Maxwell Konadu had taken 27 players for their final training camp in Namibia before making the final cut by sending four players home.

The Hearts of Oak midfielder alongside Richard Gadze of Ebusua Dwarfs, experienced Edmund Owusu-Ansah and Wa All Stars’ Joshua Otoo.

It was however the omission of Moro Abubakar that raised a lot of eyebrows as he has been one of the impressive performers in the Ghanaian top flight.

It has however emerged that the defensive midfielder was unable to prove his fitness during the training camp.

The Ghana medical team according to Accra-based Happy FM detected an injury being carried by the player for some time now which will require surgery.

The medical team according to the report, adviced against taking the player to the tournament to avoid aggravating the injury.

This reported diagnosis suggests that the player has been playing through the pain barrier for a considerable amount of time for Hearts of Oak.
