Abedi Pele has paid glowing tribute to his teammates on his surge to legendary status.

Pele, 47, after breaking into  the Black Stars as a 16-year-old went on to captain the side while achieving insurmountable personal success as a player from Ghana.

He won the prestigious African Player of the Year award on three occasions while winning several league championships and the Uefa Champions League with French club Olympique Marseille.

The former Real Tamale United star who won the Nations Cup as a teenager is regarded by many as the best Ghanaian player of all time however says he couldn't have achieved his current status without the contribution of his teammates.

"I came to realize that football is a collective game and that to be able to excel you need the help of your teammates," he said during an interview with Kwaku Sintim-Misa on his weekend TGIF Show.

"I was good but I wouldn't have been Abedi Pele today if it hadn't been for my teammates who were also very good."

Pele who has also played in Italy and Germany never played at the World Cup but says he has no regret over this.

"I have done so many things in my career and there are a lot of great players who also didn't play at the World Cup," he adds.

"I am very happy to have been able to play the game I really love to the highest level so I have no regrets at all."
