Abedi Pele backs local coach for Ghana job

Abedi Pele wants the Ghana FA to appoint a local coach for the Black Stars
Ghana legend Abedi Ayew Pele is backing the appointment of a local coach for the Black Stars.
Reports have linked interim-coach Kwesi Appiah and Sellas Tetteh to the job which became vacant after the dismissal of Serbian Goran Stevanovic last month.
But ex-France captain Marcel Desailly is said to be the frontrunner to become the next Black Stars coach.
What looks certain is that the Ghana Football Association will not appoint an expatriate coach this time round.
Pele, who guided his second-tier side Nania FC to win last season’s Ghana MTN FA Cup, says a Ghanaian coach can handle the national team.
“I don’t mind if a Ghanaian takes the job,” the three-time African Footballer of the Year said.
“They have to give him [Desailly] all the support that they gave to the European coaches.”
“Look, those who have won all the trophies for Ghana are all local coaches. What is wrong with keeping a local coach?.”
The Ghana FA set a three-week timeline to appoint Goran Stevanovic’s successor.

The three weeks is now. GFA, stop wasting our time and appoint someone immediately or by this week
@mojahadine–l am glad you have chipped this in.The GFA is the biggest problem to Ghana football and l think it’s time heads stars rolling to let them know non of them is above the law.
Why set a deadline if you cannot meet it.l bet, they get pay meeting allowance,so the more meetings,the more money they pocket.
Having said that,l think a local coach is capable as long as HE CAN be bold and stand up against some of the notorious figures in the GOVERNMENT as well as in the GFA.The talk of players ego being a problem is rubbish.
My preference is someone who can deliver, irrespective of nationality,religion or creed .

Ghana set to go down the toilet like Nigeria is doing with local coaches. What many forget is that apart from the midfield the team is ordinary.
You always talk of esperience what did Carlos Alberto Perera did what south Africa? But he is known to be one of the best coaches in the world.

He’s right a local coach can handle the team not any local coach though because some have been known to lack integrity and take bribes from players and outside influences. In order for a local coach to be effective he will have to be paid as much as they would pay a foreign coach this will make them more dignified and less likely to be corrupted.

Pls change Eddie Ansah as Goalkeepers’ trainer, he has nothing 2 impart except EXPERIENCE of woeful Goalkeeping. Did anyone watch or has watched da 1992 AFCON esp. Semi-final n Final. Anyways I’m not surprised with Olele n Kwarasey, sometimes da way they mess up, it shows they learnt very well from their boss.
