Ex-Senegalese international Adolphe Mendy says the team is united to conquer the continent at next yearââ¬â¢s Africa Cup of Nations.
The former left-back revealed the West Africans failed to win major trophies in the past largely due to divisions and bickering.
He claimed authorities spent so much time on unnessary things which accounted for their past failures.
But having seen the new generation rising to the occasion with an improved performance during the qualifiers, Mendy is optimistic winning the ultimate in attainable.
"There was a real problem of organization, discipline, but above all rancour. It did not put our talents to the front,â⬠he told the Senegalese media.
ââ¬ÅIt was a lot of tightness between the leaders and the players. There were too many problems. à ââ¬ÅLeaders spent many millions on creating divisions for nothing. This practice often sealed the fate of the national team.
ââ¬ÅBut now the parameters have been set, we can hope for success during the 2015 because there is unity of purpose which is a good sign. We have the ability to compete with the four biggest African teams. We have a young team steeped in talent and I don't see why it wouldn't be a good run in Equatorial Guinea.ââ¬
Senegal will open their group C account against four-time African champions Ghana.
