2015 AFCON: Defensive worries for South Africa ahead of Ghana clash

Published on: 26 January 2015

South Africa has lost Thulani Hlatshwayo to injury and is fretting over the fitness of fellow defender Rivaldo Coetzee ahead of its final group game against Ghana at the African Cup of Nations.

Hlatshwayo was ruled out with a concussion sustained in a clash of heads in the 1-1 draw with Senegal on Friday.

Coetzee was taken off on a stretcher early in South Africa's first group game against Algeria with a knee injury and missed the Senegal match. He could be back to face Ghana on Tuesday, but South Africa's team said it would depend how he comes through training on Monday.

South Africa is bottom of Group C and needs to beat Ghana and hope it is helped out by the Algeria-Senegal result to make the quarterfinals.
