Ex-Ghana international Joe Addo has warned Kwesi Appiah not to risk sending ‘unfit’ John Mensah to the 2014 World Cup.

Mensah, 31, is facing a race to prove his fitness with just 56 days left for the start of the global showpiece in Brazil.

The powerful centre-back is still holding onto dream of representing the Africans at the tournament after he joined Slovakian side Nitra FC.

But things have really not spark for the former Lyon man as he seems not have shaken off the recurrent injuries which has wrecked a rather fine career.

Former Ghana defender Joe Addo, who has been an avid admirer of the ‘intelligent’ defender, has kicked against moves to send him to the South American country if he fails to prove his fitness.

“Any player who is going to represent Ghana at any level of a competition have to be 100 percent fit. It doesn’t matter if you it is John Mensah or John Boye or John whatever,” he said

“He has to be 100 percent. Just because you are John Mensah does not give you the free path to join the national team.

“So, if John Mensah, as much as we need him to man the back for us, if he is not 100 percent fit, then I don’t think he should be in the team.

“On the flipside, if he is 100 percent fit and he is as good as the same John we knew before, then there is no doubt in my mind that he can make the squad.”

Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah will name his provisional 30-man squad on May 13.

The Africans are drawn against Europeans giants Germany and Portugal as well as USA in group G.

I personally don’t know why John Mensah don’t come out to declare that because of fitness issue,l have decided to hang my boots to national football assignment.ls it the money or he thinks he has something to offer his motherland?
I am getting fed up with this Joe Addo and his this today and that tomorrow. What kind special player was he.Even the likes of Abedi,Tony yeboah etc are keeping it low but not Joe Addo.Talkertive.

Joe Addo has been contradicting himself now a days. He will support John one time and now coming against him. One thing i know about John is whether club or no club he normally excels for every Black Stars assignment. Let’s give him time to keep fit so he can be invited.

Who is this Joe addo koraa? Massa, shut the hell up and leave john mensah alone! Foolish man who couldn’t do nothing for the bs during your playing days!! How did u know that john mensah is not fit? Are u a medical doctor? What did u accomplished during your fake playing days? U are a dwarf in football terms compared to john mensah!! Mensah and his batch qualified Ghana to the WC for the first time and what did u and your big ego, less talented batch did for bs? We are tired of your PhD syndrome and your incoherent, small time analysis!! Keep quiet and stop making a big fool out of yourself!! AA has said that he needs john mensah and who are u to say otherwise!! Whiles your colleagues are seriously obtaining their uefa license A coaching certificate, you are rotting yourself in some two radio station making empty noise!!

He was a good player when he war young. Now he’s too old thats y he’s unfit coz in reality he can’t be below 40. Players like the polygamist KPB, Essein, Muntari are too old at almost 40 should pave way 4 young blood then u mix those with good players like Kwado A, Dede A, Mubarack W, Inkoom S etc will surely gives smiles.

  6. Mumbi says:

If Ghana wants to end trophy drought in africa, let them stop playing big names who have already achieved their pick but now are too old to threaten young opponents. Ghana has got massive young players who wants to prove it, but veterans doesn’t have anything to prove as they have already done that with their top european clubs en not with their countries so they don’t care.

This man koraaaaaa he likes talking too much ,

  8. Mumbi says:

Learn from Nigeria’s Keshi who left out loud mouth Odemwinge but picked humble players from the local league who wanted to their worth in the national team, one of them from enungu rangers scored a best goal of the torney in Rsa 2013 en won that afcon which Odemwinge from Epl has never achieved. Zambia Won Afcon 2012 with Vital very younger players like Nathan Sinks, Lungu C, S Sunzu, Mayuka who were mixed with established playes like Kalaba, Chansa, F Katongo, Mweene, Himonde, CK11 but mixed with few veterans like J Musonda, Chamanga, bench warmer Chintu. Ghana can also do It but not at the world stage but within our continent.
