Coach Kwesi Appiah feels sorry for the football-crazy Ghanaians who are deeply hurt by the early exit of the Black Stars from the 2014 World Cup.
Ghana crashed out of the tournament being staged in Brazil after a 2-1 defeat to Portugal in their final Group G game on Thursday.
The news of Ghana's first round exit â⬓ the first time since its World Cup debut in Germany 2006 â⬓ has been received with massive grief by the football-crazy Ghanaian fans back home.
The streets of the Ghanaian capital, Accra, was left quiet after he defeat to Portugal which sealed Ghana's elimination from the tournament.
Kwesi Appiah in his apologetic post-match comments to Ghanaians is consoled by the 'good performance' of his team which according to him was failed by several missed opportunities.
ââ¬ÅGhana is a football loving country and they would love to see their team go to the next stage,â⬠he said.
ââ¬ÅBut at this is the highest level of football, even the best country is out.
ââ¬ÅGhanaians love football to bits, I will compare Ghanaians to Brazilian because football is life,ââ¬
ââ¬ÅAll I can say is that this is unfortunate. The performance was good but we didn't take our opportunities.ââ¬
The Black Stars team have since return to their team base in Maceio to pack up their belongings and make travel arrangements for their return to Ghana.
