Parma midfielder Afriyie Acquah is buoyant about his chances of making Ghana’s final 23-man World Cup squad after being named in the provisional list on Monday.

The 22-year-old has been rewarded after an exciting campaign at the Italian side this season.

He’s been perhaps the most talked about player to gatecrash the squad and rightly so having excelled heavily for Parma this term.

The Arsenal target is aware he must work his socks off to make it out of an experienced midfield section which has some of the country’s seasoned players.

But the ex-Bechem United combative midfielder is confident he fly out to Brazil with the final team.

“Naturally I’m very delighted that I’ve been called up. I think it’s a reward for hard work and I hope to prove my mettle,” he said

“ I have to prepare myself because competition is going to be intense.

“I play with Essien, Agyemang-Badu and Asamoah here in Italy and so there is no threat at all.

“They are great players and it will be nice to be with them in Brazil. I am confident about my chances because I believe in myself.

“I must go out there and let the pitch do the talking for me. I will work hard to ensure I make the final squad.

“At the end of the day, the coach will have the final say but I can only pray and hope that I will be part of the final team.”

It’s been highly speculated that he must slug it out with Russia-based Rabiu Mohammed for a place in the final squad.
