2014 World Cup: Pundit Sammy Kuffour slams ref for penalty gaffe in Brazil win

Ex-Ghana defender Samuel Osei Kuffour believes referee Yuichi Nishimura marred the 2014 FIFA World Cup winner between Brazil and Croatia on Thursday night.

The Japanese referee awarded a controversial second half penalty to Brazil which was converted by Neymar to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.

According to Kuffour, who is a TV pundit for Supersport, though there was a minimal contact from Croatia defender Dejan Lovren on Brazilian Fred, it was not enough to merit a spot-kick.

The former Bayern Munich star believes Nishimura would admit his mistake after watching the replay.

“It wasn’t enough to convince me that it was a penalty. For me, it was a soft decision,” Kuffour, who played in the 2006 finals, said.

“I think that if the referee sits down to assess the video, he would admit that he made a mistake.”

Hosts Brazil went on to score the third goal through Oscar to seal a 3-1 win to go on top of Group A.

Give me a break, Kuffuor and GSN, you are not the only one who saw that call, the whole world saw it and commented on it instantaneously, so do not make it look or sound like you are the only one who saw it and no one else did.

Please better world class commentators complained on the air while the game was still being played. Your comment is after the fact. Stop being a follower.

This is the federation of international fraud association. They will make sure the trophy is handed over to Brazil like they have done in the past. What bothers me is the fate of the African teams, referees will get all of is out. Thus the order from FIFA.

  3. OGYA says:

Alright Kuffuor and GSN, you are not the only one who saw that call, the whole world saw it and commented so do not make it look or sound like you are the only one who saw it and no one else.

Please better world class commentators complained long before you.

This is why Coach Appiah must address the issue of reckless tackling, lazy tackling and tackling from behind specifically with his team. Field a back-line and a defensive midfield squad that will not give away easy free kicks and collect yellow cards. Sub out any player who gets a yellow card before the ref gives them a red. Playing a man down in the group of “death” is a recipe for disaster.

You see Ghanaians? Ogya is behaving like a typical Ghanaian. When the thing is blue he will say it’s green. Who didn’t see that bad decision of the ref.? Let’s face the fact and be free. Say what you saw. Kuffour said what he saw, Mr ogya!

  6. pascal says:

What do you mean by ‘better world class commentators’ master?

  7. A concerned citizen.... says:

Coach AA must learn from this and talk to the players especially, Rashid Sumaila and Rabiu who bumps into people like that

  8. THE TRUTH STANDS says:

@OGYA… I PRESUME YOU ARE JUST LIKE THE REFEREE HIMSELF… JUST AS YOU SAID, THE WHOLE WORLD WATCHED THE MATCH AND THE COMMENTATORS ALL CONDEMED THE REFEREE FOR THAT MISTAKE. IT WAS ABSOLUTELY A ‘SOFT’ FOR HIM TO GIVE BRAZIL THAT PENALTY. IT WAS ABSOLUTELY WRONG AND I WILL SAY IT WAS A FAVOUR HE DID BRAZIL. THAT MATCH COULD HAVE BEEN A DRAW OR EVEN A WIN FOR CROATIA. BE REALISTIC FOR ONCE @ OGYA AND LET US ALL CONDEMN THIS FAVOURITISM IN THIS WORLD CUP AS WE USUALLY RECOGNIZE.

THE REFEREE WAS TOTALLY WRONG ON THAT PENALTY WHICH WENT ON TO CAUSE A LOOSE TO CROATIA…. I AM SURE HAD ACCEPTED SOME BRIBE SECRETELY TO FAVOUR BRAZIL BC THEY ARE THE HOST AND ONE OF THE SO CALL WORLD CLASS ANALYST SAY THE FAVOURITE TO LIFT THE CUP… AZAAAAAR REFEREE…..

  9. 21guns says:

The ref was bias, the penalty wasn’t clear

Two the disallowed goal was a clear goal

Third Neymar have to be sent off for intentionally elbowing Luca Modric.

It looks like it was plan for Brazil to win by all means

  10. Paul says:

I am expecting FIFA ref. Cttee to come out clear on this decision taken by that bogus referee last night. It is a big shame. We will see how today’s games will look like.

  11. readi 2 dye says:

How about using replays on penalties cuz it’s a game changer….I dont understand people like ogya who will sell out thier own people in favor of aliens…u need to wash ur mouth with soap for using the phrase “BETTER WORLD CLASS COMMENTATORS” REP UR city!!! He has the right to speak.

  12. ERNEST M. PAYWALA says:

THIS IS A LESSON FOR AFRICAN TEAM AT THE WORLD CUP.
OUR REPRESENTATIVE MUST BE VERY CAREFUL IN PLAYING. THEY SHOULD PLAY TO THE WHISTLE NOT WHAT THEY THINK / BELIEVED THE REFEREE MUST ALARM IN FAVOR OF THEIR TEAM. BECAUSE ANY MISTAKE WILL LEAD/ RESULT TO WHAT CROATIA EXPERIENCE IN THE OPENING MATCH.
