Controversial Ghana’s deputy sports minister Joseph Yammin has confirmed ONLY supporters and sympathizers of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) will be flown to Brazil to support the Black Stars at the World Cup.

The country’s sports chief Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah confirmed this week that 500 Ghanaian fans will fly out to the South American country to cheer on the Black Stars at the global showpiece.

But it has now emerged that majority of the fans have been drawn from supporters of the ruling Nations Democratic Congress with supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party and others left in the cooler.

The country’s deputy sports boss insists majority of the supporters of the ruling government will be given the opportunity to travel to Brazil to support the team.

“We’re taken supporters to Brazil. I will say without a shred of doubt that majority of those supporters will be members of NDC,” he said

“In 2006, about 250 supporters were sent to Germany and my checks indicate that only seven NDC members were part of the team.

“I will not be hypocrite and say we’ll share it equally. You can take it or leave it. We’ll give them their small number and ensure majority of the people we send are NDC supporters.

“They are the people who brought the party to power and so they must benefit from the party.

“You can say whatever you want, but NDC supporters are going to Brazil.

The former Ashanti regional secretary is not new in courting controversy after he ‘read’ politics in Ghana’s World Cup group decider against Zambia in September last year.

He urged the team to beat the Chipolopolo to further the cap of his government – a comment  which drew wild criticism from many Ghanaian fans.

Yammin latest comment could worsen the already polarized political temperature in the country which has been divided sharply between the ruling government and opposition New Patriotic Party.

  1. Fuck Ndc says:

What is this country turning into, bringing politics into football and dividing the country into two and why should the minister for youth and sports be so partial taking 90% of the Ndc to the World Cup .God help Ghana

    • Kwabena says:

My friend the minister said the NPP started it in 2006 so it has become a convention. Anyway, would you leave me out of this list if I supported you to come into power? If it was good for the NPP, it must be good for the NDC too. And mind you, this is NOT football administration. It is fan mobilization. As long as all the people going are Ghanaian, the government has the right to discretion!

      • The greatest says:

Black is doomed if this happens. They will come home after three games.

      • Papa USA says:

Clearly, you are stupid Kwabena. Nonsense, you have the guts to tell me I have a turkey mind.. Stupid fool that that turkey mind took me to medical school and one day I will be taking care of your black stupid ass. It clear to me that you actually have a turkey mind yourself. These people are starting to do things that doomed the team sometime ago and insteading see it for what it is, you will rather support it. If NPP did that in 2006 then it was wrong and we have to make sure politics are out of game. I am Akan too but clearly you are a stupid Akan. You part of the reason why our country is moving back into the stone age.

      • alhaji quarshie dovlo assante says:

You are a waste to you very own life…
        dudui.

  2. Kwabena says:

This article is biased! I listened to the minister this morning and he said there is a tradition of flying members of various political parties to the World Cup. He cited the example of Honorable Abilele, an NPP serial caller who was sent to the World Cup in 2006. Hence, he said he will follow that tradition and it is likely more NDC members will go to the World Cup. That does not mean ONLY NDC members will be sent to the World Cup. Guys, what the NPP did that was considered to be alright can be considered as a convention by the NDC!

  3. foreign says:

    aaawwwwwwwww,yamin,too bad a comment

  4. samva says:

if this is true then am highly disappointed in the minister.

  5. Aminu says:

Use your senses.don’t be like them because they didn’t want ghana to be one.so if you follow their step it will be worst than before.we need(one ghana) please

    • Kwabena says:

I am very Akan, but I believe in justice, fairness and equality. If people will not support the Black Stars because the government is sending supporters from the NDC to Brazil, they can do whatever they like. The NPP did it. They sent fans from the NPP to the World Cup in Germany. Nobody complained. Today, the NDC is doing the same, it MUST be accepted. Politics is such that there are written rules. However, in discretionary matters, when a party in power does something that is not reversed in court, it becomes a convention. What is good for the goose is good for the gander. The NPP did it, no one questioned it so it is now a convention!

  6. abdul rahman yakubu says:

this man does not deserve 2 b a minister, y bring politics in sports.

  7. schywee says:

Evidence of chop because you voted me syndrome.
Is the money used NDC money of Ghana tax payers money?
Oh Ghana, blindly people are saying NPP did it so NDC must do it.
NPP or NDC, we are Ghanaians. We all pay taxes and the money being used is not NDC money but Government money.
Yammin mentions one serial caller who he alleges was NPp and that justify a majority of NDC for Brazil. The last i check ONE person is less than a minority.

People voted based of what they believed but did not stop being Ghanaians based on who the voted for…so they continued paying taxes, they continued sacrificing for Ghana, …we are ghanaians first before party members.
Fellow Ghanaians dont blindly be taken for granted by politicians who do it not for you but for themselves.
This is not a leader this is an exploiter. A cue from the leadership of Nelson Mandela will serve our exploiters very well. Leaders look out for the good of their people as a whole and not for the good of their existence.
    Shame on You Yammin…

  8. Malcolm X says:

LIKE SERIOUSLY? ABBAAAA!!!!!! PAINTED GHANAIAN CALL YAMMIN EVEN IF NPP HAVE DONE DAT MUST U COME OUT TO SAY URS ON AIR? WHEREAS DEY DID NOT PUBLICLY BROADCAST THEIRS AS AT THEIR TIME EVEN URSELF CONFERS BY SAYING ” ACCORDING TO UR RESEARCH DEY TOKE ONLY NPP MEMBER TO SUPPORT”, SO IT CAN B TRO OR FALSE, SIMILAR STATEMENT U MADE DURING OUR WC QUALIFIER WITH ZAMBIA” PAINTED GHANAIAN B MATURED OK

  9. benny says:

This whole idea of sending supporters sucks. You don’t have money to pay workers yet for the sake of politics you are taking people to watch football.
His speech is very arrogant. In true democracy, you don’t say take it or leave it. If NPP did send their supporters to Germany, it doesn’t mean they did the right thing. That is why they were voted out among other things.
I read things like this and l feel so disappointed in the body politics in Ghana.
They spend money on stupid things and next minute they’re calling on the west for aid.

    • Baba Fuseini says:

What a Nation Ghana is, where political affiliation determines what people can do and cannot do. I count myself blessed to be observing this eyesore from five Thousand kilometers away.

      • alhaji quarshie dovlo assante says:

Who is this fatfool trying so hard to split Ghanaians and bring the only joy left in the country “the Black Star” down… these people destroys anything they touch. Now football too?

  10. kuukuphilly says:

This better not be true because Ghana is for all not just for the ruling party.I strongly oppose this idea

  11. Razzaq says:

this is unacceptable, this Man is trying to bring division among Ghanaians.

  12. stunna says:

Smh i wonder the kind of role models we have in this ministers of state. Everybody talks just like that. U People for watch urselvez oooo no condition is permanent

  13. Benny says:

He looks more of a Lebanese than a Ghanaian.Fat lamp.

  14. Alhaj says:

Really Controversial if and only if what is said about YAMIN is true. Ghana is for all and not a particular party. Let’s be ONE Ghana and move forward.

  15. Punny says:

Is this a joke, pls can some one confirm that this is just a media speculation ?
If it is not, then may The GOD Lord have mercy on mother Ghana

  16. awass says:

So wat aba we d floating voters but staunch soccer fanatic

  17. Gbod) says:

The NPP were voted out of power cos of their dealings, people voted for change, its there4 disheartening to see de NDC repeat these errors n shamefully, arrogantly n foolishly justify why they r repeating de same mistakes…it only ends one way,no condition is permanent, stomach politicians…so becareful mixing football with politics….Ghana is already polarized n dis world cup is an opportunity to heal wounds n unite this great nation

  18. Acquah says:

Kwasia be nti yebre, aaaahhhh our beloved mother Ghana look @ how Ndc have destroyed am,KWASIA BE NTI n if u say dey say te nia woho betowo

  19. Clement says:

What the minister is saying is rubbish.Does the country belongs to the NDC party alone eh.He should bear in mind that together we stand but division we fall.

  20. NII-BI says:

Africans politicians are like disguised thieves…
I dont know why they are refusing to grow up…
They have divided the country into pieces and the only things that unite us . This is the main reason why Ghana has not won anything for so many years now. We should have won can 2008 and 2013, but because of this ministers (who supposed to served but are now being serving) thats why the nation is in drought. I support ndc but this guy should come say sorry to the general public before he sees what he surpose not to see.

  21. Papa USA says:

African mentality syndrome will kill us all. Only African nations will send people to the world cup and then play politics with it. Be it NDC or NPP I don’t care. This should be about the people. This clear shows how are our leaders are out of touch with the ordinary people. Oh sorry even the ordinary people such @Kwabena is no better and also corrupt so how can they even demand accountability from these so called leaders. Left to me alone government should not support any way to Brazil. Look at the other countries, which other nation is paying to send people to support it team. None only african nations will do that.

  22. Kwabena says:

Then do not use taxpayers money but your party’s money otherwise……

  23. nana vugison says:

  24. Kwadwo Boakye says:

  25. Chales Agbenu says:

NDC are using unconfirmed 2006 happenings about Black Stars’ supporter composition to Germany to judge 2014 Brazil supporter compositions.
Assuming only 7 NDC were taken to Germany by NPP government in 2006.
What happened in 2010 when NDC were in power?
How many NPP members did NDC government send to South Africa?
NDC had their turn in 2010.
So why the repeat of the ugly trend in 2014
Can Ghana develop in such environment?
It was this same Jammin who said when Ghana qualified that NDC have had two Npp has had one
    NDC 2; NPP 1
What do these Jammin perennial childish rantings mean at all in Ghana’s football development?
When will our political leaders act wisely in the interest of Ghana?
Either you are for me or against me spirit cannot help Ghana.
In the context of corporate Ghana Jammin doctrine is wrong dangerous and divisive and should be condemned

  26. ghana abre says:

Am surprised at kwabena’s comment so if npp did that can’t you do something different blind men n I don’t think kwabena is educated woagyimi paa wisen up man can’t you see what’s going on in the country we outside the country even see what’s going on how much more you living in it can’t you feel the hardship people are going through are you dumb

  27. Benito says:

This is very sad to hear, our greatest problem as a country and a continent is leadership failure, how on earth will someone make such a statement?I thought soccer is to bring us together but not to divide us

  28. PITO says:

Yammin the ”bongo” face ”double chin” creature is half Indian, Bangladeshi or Pakistani or sri lankan!
He does not know what football is. All he knows is cricket and has never kicked a soccer ball in his entire life!

Who gave him power to spew garbage in Ghana. And by the way why do we have so many Indian halfies in NDC government and they are all possess equal mentality. Victoria Hammah, is a recent example who confidently spewed that she will ride on he back of Ghana politics to become a millonaire.

You guys should Go to india and see how some of their ministers openly encourage rape of women.

Yammin is no different, he has more indian than Ghanaian blood in him. gutter face entity rapist.

  29. opoku says:

@ kwabena,I can see u will be visionless if u are voted into power.how can u say somebody started it,so its the right pathern?why is there amendments?bro. think wisely.always think of what u can do for the better upbringing of our mother GHANA.

LEARN SENSE NA S33 WAGYIMI PAAAAAAAAA YOU DON’T DESERVE YOUR POSITION AT ALL. MR. PRESIDENT MUST SACK U AT ONCE!

  31. Dee says:

What in Heaven’s name is happening in Ghana. I’m so much ashamed I voted for the NDC. If this guy is still in office till the beginning of next week then i don’t know what our president is doing. I think the media and other civil societies, who may be the only true representation of democracy we have in this country, should take this issue up n call for the resignation of Yammin or whatever his name is. Ghana is going downhill and it looks like the only resort at our disposal is what the mob made use of in “Gangs of New York. God Bless the Black Stars, God Help Ghana. Hmmm
