Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah says he has profited from his ‘experiment’ in sending ten debutants to the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars trainer announced a 26-man provisional squad for the 2014 World Cup on Monday at a press conference.

Six out of the 10 debutants at the Nations Cup in South Africa made Appiah’s provisional squad for June’s tournament in Brazil.

Players such as Fatau Dauda, Jerry Akaminko, Christian Atsu, Albert Adomah, Mubarak Wakaso and Rabiu Mohammed are all in the running to play for Ghana at the World Cup having made the provisional squad.

The risk of taking such a huge number of inexperienced players to a major tournament such as the Nations Cup failed to pay off for the Black Stars trainer as Ghana finished a disappointing fourth in South Africa.

But coach Appiah says his ‘experiment’ worked in the long run as he was able to fall on majority of his Nations Cup debutants in making his provisional World Cup squad.

"I took about ten new players to the Nation Cup [South Africa] and most of the local ones turned professionals afterwards," he told Asempa FM.

"It was a major risk but it ended up help helping us as the morale of most of the players were boosted.

"A lot of them now are in the squad for the World Cup so we can see how that - if you like experiment - helped us."
