Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah wants to ‘bottle’ the quality of his players are showing ahead of Monday’s 2014 World Cup opener against USA.

The Ghanaian trainer says he want to keep their fine-tuning ahead of their group G opener against the Americans on Monday June 16 in Natal.

The team touched down in Maceio on Wednesday as they carry the rest of Africa on their shoulders.

The Ghanaians have been tipped largely by bookmakers to cause an upset in the South Americana country as they did in the last two editions of the tournament in 2006 and 2010.

The team managed a comprehensive 4-0 demolishing of South Korea on Monday which followed their narrow 1-0 defeat to the Netherlands.

Coach Appiah’s says he has been impressed with the players attitude and wants to keep that ahead of the start of the tournament.

“The training session and friendly games have been extremely helpful,” he said

“The performance of the players in the last days has been good

“There are so many of them that are so keen to stake their claim so it won’t be an easy choice and that’s how I expected it to be.

“We hope to carry on the spirit to the World Cup.”

The Black Stars will play against old foes USA and Germany as well as Portugal in group G.

Coach, we must win, but we must win by as many goals as possible because Cote D’Ivoire was kicked out for Portugal to qualify because they could not “load” North Korea. So we have to score as many as we can on Monday.

  2. Ghanaman says:

Score all the goals you can. Attack attack

  3. Nimo says:

just strengthen the defence by playing essien as a right back. remember he excelled in that role at madrid. my preferred line-up

I respect your views but why do you play Rabiu ahead of Agyemang Badu..it seems you guys now underestimate this strong guy coupled with experience who cab also score when it matters most.

    • wilson says:

we dont have the standard of players at real madrid to afford putting essien at rightback. how many of ghanaian players have lasted half of the years essien last at a top team in the english premier league? why do you people allow the envy of essien develop into hatred?

Ghana have no reason to lose the game against usa, Ghana have to beat usa this time by a larger margin so that they will know for sure there is no way they can beat Ghana.

Ghana have players who are capable of changing games at any time,

With the kind of players in possession of Ghana i don’t see usa matching as player by player,we are far ahead of them in terms of that so drawing with usa is unacceptable.

Also comparing the two teams as a whole the usa team is full of average players playing mediocre teams,
And not every player can score in the team usa,the only threat against Ghana is jozy Antidote,Clint Dempsey and probably Aaron Johnson comparing to ghana’s Dede Ayew, Christian Atsu, Asamoah Gyan, Wakaso, prince Boateng the list is endless, almost every player in team Ghana can score any time and any moment.

Our only problem is the goalkeeping, Ghana can over come it when the right goal Keeper is been choose to lead us no need to mention names, we all saw what happened between the friendly game against Korea and the Netherlands.

Our deffenders also need to concentrate they lost concentration against the Netherlands and the Koreans if they keep focus on the game nothing will stop us.

Finally usa have in the back of their mind that Ghana plays like nigeria which is a very big mistake on their side,Ghana plays total different brands of football compared to nigeria, that will also be their mistake, beating nigeria anyhow and dominating them anyhow does not give them the chance to beat Ghana.

Hence I don’t see no reason for Ghana to draw to usa, Ghana will beat usa convincingly with a good and brilliant goals.

    God bless my mother Ghana

  6. Paul says:

@Nimo: you are rightly spot on. Essien should play at right back.

  13. Carlos Danger says:

On paper we should be able to beat them. The problem is the players often let us down by not performing to expectation. We can sit here and say we will win but you and I are not playing the game — the players that often disappoint are the ones playing.

We also have to factor in the Refs as they could be the game changer — all it takes is a dubious penalty or red card and we are doomed as I don’t see us getting out of this group if we don’t win Monday’s game…
