England-based defender Jeffrey Schlupp says he is ‘gutted’ not to be making the final Ghana squad for the 2014 World Cup.

The 21-year-old failed to make the cut in the final Black Stars squad named by coach Kwesi Appiah on Sunday morning.

Schlupp emerged a surprise inclusion in the provisional 26-man squad despite playing a key role to help Leicester City seal a return to the English top flight.

The left-back however appears to have paid for his below-par performance in the 1-0 defeat to the Netherlands in an international friendly on Saturday.

Schlupp slipped at a vital point to let in Robin Van Persie finish comfortably in what eventually proved to be the winner of the game played in Rotterdam.

He subsequently failed to make his presence felt both in attack and in defence – ultimately costing him a place in Ghana’s final squad for this month’s tournament in Brazil.

The ex Brentford loanee admits he is hugely disappointed to be chunked off the final squad but looks to pick up vital lessons from his experience with the Black Stars.

“Great season has come to an end. Gutted not to be going to the WC but time to relax with my family now and get myself ready for next season!” Schlupp Tweeted.

“Another great experience playing against a quality team and some world class players infront of 50 000 fans!”

Schlupp joined injured Jerry Akaminko and David Accam as the trio to have failed to make the final Ghana squad for the World Cup.

The Germany-born Ghanaian will now be returning to his base in England as the Black Stars head to the USA to finalize their preparations for the World Cup.
