George Owu wants to play for Ghana at the 2014 World Cup

Hasaacas goalie, George Owu, has received Â the strongest endorsement from a member of the powerful Executive Committee of the Ghana FA who says he will help Ghana at the 2014 World Cup if he is selected.

The Greater Accra RFA chairman, Nii Komiete Doku, believes Owu is the most experienced man to guard Ghana’s post in Brazil.

The RFA chairman, who was reacting to an earlier story published by the Graphic Sports, insisted that of all the goalkeepers in the national team at the moment, Owu’s pedigree towered above them and deserved to be part of the team.

“I’m not imposing my views on Coach Kwasi Appiah and I’m not speaking on behalf of the Greater Accra RFA but it’s my personal view”, he said last Wednesday.

He explained that with the Black Stars backline lacking the needed cohesion, what it needed was an experienced and confident goalkeeper who could arrange it, and Owu was the only one with that ability.

Mr Doku also argued that like old wine, goalkeepers got better with age and explained that all the top class goalkeepers peaked after 35 years and believed Owu’s age Â made him more experience to guard Ghana’s goal in Brazil

Beyond that, he praised Owu for single handedly inspiring Hasaacas from a lower division to the premiership and his contribution to the national team in their previous campaigns.

“In tournaments like the World Cup, we don’t need to use ordinary keepers but world class ones, and Owu can be compared to any of the world class goalkeepers we have around now”, he stressed.
