Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah believes his team can only get better following their shocking 2-1 defeat to the United States in their opening game at the 2014 World Cup.

The Black Stars were stunned by their usual whipping boys with goals from Clint Dempsey and John Brooks on either side of the game sealing a sweet win for the Americans last Monday in Natal.

Andre Ayew scored an equalizer in between but the Black Stars ultimately failed to build on that momentum to slump to a disappointing defeat in their opening Group G game.

Ghana now faces an early exit from the tournament being staged in Brazil and must now secure results against Germany and Portugal to have any chance of progressing further.

Coach Kwesi Appiah who has had his fair share of criticisms following the defeat is confident his side will improve in games to come.

“We are four countries in a competition, this is the first game and we’ve got two more to play,” he said.

“I believe that we will get better in our coming games and make sure that we qualify.

“It is not going to be easy but we will work hard at it.”

Ghana next faces three-time winners Germany in a game the Black Stars desperately need points from to stay alive in the competition.

The Black Stars will leave their team base in Maceio on Friday to Fortaleza where the second group game will be played on Saturday.
