Ghana star midfielder Michael Essien was rated better than Mario Balotelli and AC Milan manager Clarence Seedorf after he came off the bench to play in their 2-0 defeat to AS Roma in the Serie A on Friday night.
Despite playing just 32 minutes, the ex-Chelsea star outshone most of Milan’s players, beating Balotelli and rating the same as Philipe Mexes, Recardo Kaka, Adel Taarabt and Kevin Constant who all completed the game at the Stadio Olimpico.
The 31-year-old took the place of his Ghana team-mate Sulley Muntari in the 58th minute and he rated better than his manager Seedorf and star striker Mario Balotelli.
Balotelli in particular became talk of the night following the defeat after he openly questioned Clarence Seedorf’s tactical decision to take him off in the 69th minute.
However Sulley Muntari, whose place Essien took was the second best performer on the night for Milan as he scored 5.5 with Milan’s best players on the night (Danieli Bonera and Pazzini) both rating 6.
