Ghana coach James Kwesi Appiah will have the luxury of selecting influential duo Michael Essien and Abdul Majeed Waris as they have both returned to full scale training.

Essien suffered a toe problem while training with the Black Stars after the reverse against the United States while striker Majeed Waris had not been able to get involved in full scale training after suffering a muscle tear in Ghana’s last pre-tournament game against South Korea.

Ghana Football Association Communications head Ibrahim Sannie Daara confirms the two are all set for Saturday’s group game against the European giants.

“The pains in Essien’s toe has subsided considerably and he has been training quite well. Waris has also been fit and training just three days after the injury so he is ready to play,” he told pressmen.

Essien came off the bench to play in Ghana’s opening Group G defeat against the USA while Waris was not involved in the game.

    Ghana must win

    Essien Jonathan Boye Wakaso

    Badu Afriyie

    Ayew KPB Asamoah

    Gyan

    sub > Waris.Rabiu and Muntari

  3. isquared says:

Ghana should play a 3-5-2 formation with the most energetic and mobile players in midfield:

    GK:KWARASEY
    CBR: BOYE
    CBM: ESSIEN
    CBL: MENSAH
    MR: BADU
    DMR: RABIU
    CM: ASAMOAH
    DML: MUNTARI
    ML: DEDE
    AM: KPB (laterally behind Gyan)
    FWD: GYAN
This lineup will match well with any team any day but in particular with the Germans. Warris, Atsu, Wakaso/Acquah can come off the bench if necessary.

  4. isquared says:

By the way, US could not have scored a single goal against us if coach Appiah had used the above players and formation. Would have been at least 2-0 win over US!!!

  5. benny says:

    Kwaresey
    Essien Rabiu J.Mensah Afful
    Munta
    Dede KPB K.Asa
    Waris Gyan
    4 -1-3-2
Rabiu has the height and no nonsense tackler so l think can pair with J. Mensah.
Essien can do a better job at right back and can give deadly passes to Dede to bomb forward.KPB should be given the freedom to link up play.
l think this selection is a world cup winner.

    —————— kwaresey ————–

    Opare — mensah — boye —– aful

    Boateng – muntari — asamoah – Atsu

    Dede —– gyan

A reliable source says that this will be the Ghana line-up against Germany: Fatau, Afful, Kwadwo, Jonathan, Boye, Muntari, Atsu, Rabiu, Gyan, Boateng, Ayew.

  9. African Consciousness says:

The Black Stars have 8 players with prior World Cup experience, they should all start with the exception of Jonathan Mensah. He was involved in defending the first goal even though he is a central defender. I saw Muntari chasing Dempsey and John Boye challenging Dempsey but Jonathan was not in the frame of the camera. He also caused the foul that resulted in the corner kick on which the USA scored in the dying minutes of the game. Such lack of focus should not be rewarded. I will replace him with Sumaila in central defense.

    Use a 3-5-2 formation with a 7 + 3 = 3 points

    Inkoom=========================Sumaila======================Afful

    Dede==========Kevin ==========Essien===Muntari=========Kwadwo Asamoah======

    ==========================Gyan===============Waris=======================

Dede and Asamoah can track the German attackers and help defend. Muntari and Essien can supply the on the dime passes to help the speedy Gyan and Waris break down the German defense and also due to their lack of explosive speed hang back a bit and help with the leaky defense. Kevin Prince Boateng can play the holding midfield position by receiving passes from Muntari and Essien. The ball must go through Muntari and Essien at all times then KPB to the forwards. To mix it up a bit Afful can play off either Muntari or Kwadwo Asamoah to link up with the forwards.

For subs use Afriyie Acquah, Atsu and Agyeman Badu.

The above line up and formation says the Black Stars mean business. The midfield is where Ghana’s strength lies and we have to take full advantage of it.

The team must play even harder than they did against the USA. This is a tournament if there is no goal by the end of the first have one sub must go on for one of the starters. Essien recovering toe must make way for Acquah, Muntari who is carrying a yellow must make way for Badu and finally Dede who played 90 minutes the last game must make way for Atsu. This is a tournament we need fresh legs.
The 4-4-2 is too defensive and we need to score goals, it also under utilizes Black Stars strength.

Coach Appiah must go with a 3-5-2 and use 7 of his 8 players with prior World Cup experience.

This line up says Black Stars and Coach Appiah means business, he is starting his best and most experienced players. The only player dropped with prior W/C experience is J Mensah. He did not help defend the first goal and he committed the foul that resulted in the last goal.

For subs Acquah for Essien, Badu for Muntari and Atsu for Dede.

  12. janet says:

Defenses is the best antic of this game which Ghana lacks. The goal keeper needs one player in front of him to bail him out, this is what I see they need to avoid loosing. Pass the ball to a player near the goal post not to the side.

  13. Paul says:

Akwasi Appiah knows very well that Ghanaians are waiting for him. This is his last test to be promoted or demoted. May God help him.

Now, the players, they think if they play that senseless football they played against US again, Ghanaians will forgive them, they lie bad. Should they lose today’s game, we will dismantle the whole team and rebuild with quality and committed players.
