Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah wants the Black Stars to be the best side at the 2014 World Cup insisting they have built on their confidence following their previous impressive showing the the global tournament.

The Black Stars have been the best African side at the two previous World Cups reaching the quarter-final of the previous editions in South Africa four years ago.

They were only eliminated on penalties by Uruguay in South Africa and in the previous tournament they were the only African side to reach the knock-out phase of the competition.

Appiah, who was the assistant coach at the 2010 World Cup, is sure that the players have gained enough confidence to improve upon their previous showing at the World Cup.

“Now we’re looking forward to Brazil. All of my players are at very good clubs so there’s no reason to be cautious. We’re going there full of confidence,” Appiah told FIFA Weekly.

“I want us to be the best team in the World.

“At the World Cup in Brazil, we can go further than we did in South Africa four years ago. We can become greater than the sum of our parts and reach the semi-final or the final.”

Ghana will open their Group of Death campaign with a clash against the United States, before playing Germany and Portugal.
