Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah admits he has lost one of World Cup hopefuls after injury ruled out defender Jerry Akaminko.
The Turkish-based centre-back fractured his ankle in stoppage time in Saturdayââ¬â¢s 1-0 defeat to the Netherlands at De Kuip Stadium in Rotterdam.
Akaminko landed awkwardly after going in for an aerial challenge and had to stretchered off.
Appiah, who was set to name the Eskisehirspor player in his 23-man squad, was left to lament the loss of the dependable defender.
ââ¬ÅIt is unfortunate that Jerry has got to face this,â⬠Appiah told the Ghana FAââ¬â¢s official website.
ââ¬ÅLooking at the training he has done with the team we had lots of hope for the World Cup.
ââ¬ÅAll we have to do, apart from the support we will offer him is to pray for him to come back stronger.ââ¬
Ghanaââ¬â¢s final squad will be announced on Sunday when the team lands in Florida, USA to prepare for the tournament.
