Ghana midfielder Rabiu Mohammed says he’s getting closer to regaining full fitness after being sidelined with an injury for months, to boost Ghana's chances at the World Cup.

The 23-year-old has not been involved for Russian side Kuban Krasnodar for more than two months and did not play in Ghana’s World Cup play-off return leg against Egypt late last year.

The former Udinese man is racing against time to be fully fit for the Africans ahead of the 2014 World Cup in June.

However, the hardworking midfielder says he is recuperating fast after starting light training.

“I have started training and it feels good to be back, but am not fully fit am just doing light training and hoping the best will come out, I have to stay focused and fit,” he said

“The season is about to end and I want to play at least some of the matches before it ends to keep me in shape so that I can help my nation in the upcoming World Cup in Brazil.

“I want to play but again injuries are part of the game, so I have to relax and stay focused listen to instructions from the team doctors and we will see what will come out.

Mohammed is regarded as one of Kwesi Appiah’s key men after excelling heavily during the 2013 African Cup of Nations and the World Cup qualifying campaign.
