Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan says he has prioritised Ghana's progress to the second round of the World Cup and his focus is not on setting new record at the 2014 World Cup.

The 28-year-old became the first African footballer to score at three different World Cup finals when he scored against Germany in a 2-2 stalemate in Group G and also became ONLY the second African player to score 5 goals at FIFA's most prestigious tournament.

However, while the Al Ain has reached a milestone in Brazil, his country's fate at the tournament is down to their last group game against Portugal with Germany and USA's game also decisive.

And, though he admits scoring at three different finals brings a special feeling he wants Ghana first.

“I must be frank; I am not concentrating on breaking any goal-scoring record. I have scored five goals in the World Cup and it doesn’t come cheap, it comes with hard work and determination," he told Ghanaian journalist Russle Wiafe.

“So for me what I am concentrating on with my national team is to make sure we qualify for the next stage of the World Cup, and not on personal glory."

“I have said that to be at the World Cup is enough for me, this is my third time playing for my country in three different World Cups and I must say I’m proud of myself for what I have achieved so far in my footballing career."

The striker could overtake Roger Milla to become Africa's all-time top-scorer at the World Cup if he scores against Portugal on Thursday. Something top strikers like Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto'o have not been able to do. Both players are considered African legend.
