Ghana legend Reverend Osei Kofi has kicked against a proposal that will see Black Stars players bring along their wives and girlfriends to the World Cup tournament in Brazil.

Team psychologist Professor Joseph Mintah has submitted a proposal to the Ghana FA requesting for such a move.

Research has confirmed that the players could start agitation because of the absence of their spouses after 21 days of being away from their families.

But former Asante Kotoko great Reverend Osei Kofi believes it will be a misplaced priority if the proposal is approved.

“I don’t see the need for that. What is the sense in sending wives and girlfriends to Brazil? For them to go there and do what? he asked

“We should be concerned with many important issues and leave this one.

“Are we saying players cannot stay away from sex for six weeks? That is a big joke.

“And so if their wives and girlfriends are there, that will make them win games or what?

“Look if it is allowed, it will spiral out of control. Already some of them do it when it has not been sanctioned and so what is the point in making it official? I don’t get it.”

The debate in Ghana has been sparked by the recent revelation by Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi that he will allow his married players to bring their wives to the team’s camp but barred girlfriends from joining the Super Eagles in Brazil in June.

“For combat athletes like fighters or boxers, having sex before an important fight can reduce the aggressiveness and make them passive,” although effects vary from person to person.

“Sexual activities must never be prohibited to athletes, since there is no scientific evidence to support it. The same applies to men and women,” said Rodríguez.

Well said Rev. Am surprised that this is issue is turning into a serious debate in this country instead of us focusing on very important stuffs that will help the team, this is fucking ridiculous!!

  3. UnitedStatesOfAfrica says:

Any wife or girlfriend who wants to support this rubbish obviously don’t have Ghana in their best interest, if they are truly devoted wife or girlfriend they will not support this and allow the black stars to focus on the task ahead. in all honesty this is ridiculous, these are professional players and its their job to play soccer, do you get up and take your wife or girlfriend to work with you?
