2014 World Cup: Ex-Ghana FA vice-president Pappoe expects two or three local defenders to make squad
Ex-Ghana FA vice-president Fred Pappoe expects at least two or three home-based defenders to make the provisional list ahead of the 2014 World Cup.
Coach Kwesi Appiah is in the process of firming up his initial 30-man squad for camping on May 13.
It has been hugely speculated in the local media that only Aduana Stars goalkeeper Stephen Adams will be named in the squad.
But the chairman of the Local Black Stars management committee, Fred Pappoe, is convinced more numbers will make up the initial squad.
“Personally, I will not want to say things that will put weight or pressure on Kwasi Appiah,” he said
“But I seriously believe that it will be difficult for him to convince me that if we are to mention or pick about 12 best Ghanaian defenders now, he can tell me he will come up with 12 players or 10 players, without at least 2 or 3 local players.
“I cannot be convinced on that.”
Many have clamoured for the inclusion of certain home-based players who excel heavily during the 2014 CHAN tournament in South Africa.
Kotoko defensive duo Abeiku Ainooson and Kwabena Edusei as well as Hearts strong centre-back Nuu Sulley are those who have come under the spotlight.
