Ex-Dutch star striker Ruud van Nistelrooy has expressed admiration for Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan but has questioned the striker's decision to remain in the Arabian Peninsula.

The 28-year-old equalled African's goal record at the World Cup finals after scoring in Saturday's Group G 2-2 stalemate against Germany in Fortaleza.

Gyan also reached a milestone as he has become the first African player to score at three different World Cup finals.

And, a surprised van Nistelrooy has praised his quality and questioned his decision to play in the UAE.

“Why is Gyan playing in the UAE? I don’t know what he is doing there .He should be playing with a top side in Europe. He had a tremendous game,” he said on ESPN.

Gyan left English side Sunderland to join Al Ain in summer 2012 after his debut season at the Stadium of Light.

Gyan has been linked with a return to Europe with Napoli and other clubs interested but Al Ain have offered the striker a new deal.
