Ex-Dutch star striker Ruud van Nistelrooy has expressed admiration for Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan but has questioned the striker’s decision to remain in the Arabian Peninsula.

The 28-year-old equalled African’s goal record at the World Cup finals after scoring in Saturday’s Group G 2-2 stalemate against Germany in Fortaleza.

Gyan also reached a milestone as he has become the first African player to score at three different World Cup finals.

And, a surprised van Nistelrooy has praised his quality and questioned his decision to play in the UAE.

“Why is Gyan playing in the UAE? I don’t know what he is doing there .He should be playing with a top side in Europe. He had a tremendous game,” he said on ESPN.

Gyan left English side Sunderland to join Al Ain in summer 2012 after his debut season at the Stadium of Light.

Gyan has been linked with a return to Europe with Napoli and other clubs interested but Al Ain have offered the striker a new deal.

      Awass,

That is what you think as a novice. There is something to be said about playing with quality players. They lift your spirit and they challenge you to excel. Asamoah is not getting any of that in the UAE. All he is getting is ass kissing and money. If money was everything, a lot of people will be very successful and happy.

His excuse is he’s played in Europe before, fine but a lot of people don’t remember that. After the world cup is over he will vanish into what Mike Tyson said OBLIVION.

Wake up Asamoah. You are playing with COLTS.

  2. Danny Murton says:

There’s a very easy answer to that question, Ruud.

    Money.

    And more money.

  3. texas says:

Gyan is happy where is now and that is the most important thing. He is still playing very well and scoring at the highest level. Let the man be……haha.

  4. Carlos Danger says:

He is 28 African yrs old … If it was 2 or 3 yrs ago I would agree for him to go to Europe so he could polish up more for the WC. He will be too old for 2018 and his form now is good for afcon 2015 so he should stay put and make his money..

the pain suffering coupled wif corrupt leaders in african esp. Ghana have pushed talented n excellent brains n legs 2 leave places where they can get money 2 fend 4 demselves n family. So i support gyan decision 100%

    @Awass n Texas u guys are right.
@OGYA if gyan was finding it defficult to cope with this worldcup top level then we all have a case to make against gyan but this is fortunately not the case.
gyan might be playing in a weak league but he is still the real deal.
These are the kind of games gyan realy shows his class.
he did it to the likes of canavarro, ujfalusi, vidic, ivanovic, becagnegra, mertesacker, hummels and he will do the same to pepe and bruno alves.
Ruud van nistelroy should leave gyan alone.
wasnt Ruud van nistelroy the same guy who asked bundesliga side Hamburg sv to go him 500,000€ before he signs for them?
he was the same guy who said Hamburg sv should pay his monthly apartment rent of 5,000€ .
after all these extras,he got a yearly salary of 4 million euros.
The question is what was ruud van nistelroy playing soccer for?
Gyan should just think of himself after all he hasnt got anything more to prove to anybody.
he is definately a living legend.

Gyan no Gyan o,Ghana is coming home.

  9. Boro says:

He missed two glorious opportunites which any world class will not waste. The first one was similar to the third goal Jordan scored against the south koreans. So all is not so well with his form just that in the absence of good bad is good.

  10. fish says:

You are right Boro.By the way I do not know why Ghanaians are attacking Jordan,Gyan would have done the same.

  12. Jojo says:

The world does not revolve around Europe. He is still doing well even though he plays in UAE. THE ONLY THING THAT MAKES EUROPE BETTER THAN THE REST IS MEDIA HYPE. SEE THE WAY THE SO CALLED STARS FROM EUROPE ARE STRUGGLING. STAY PUT AND MAKE YOUR MONEY, GYAN. THE EUROPEANS SHOULD SWIM IN THEIR BELIFE THAT THEY ARE THE BEST.
