Defender Rashid Sumaila refuses to get carried away by his inclusion into the provisional Ghana squad for the 2014 World Cup.

The 21-year-old remains on track towards playing in his first major tournament for the Black Stars having made the provisional 26-man squad announced by coach Kwesi Appiah on Monday.

Sumial is coming off an impressive debut season where he helped Mamelodi Sundowns clinch the South African league title.

Many believe the ex Asante Kotoko loanee has done just enough to escape the axing of three players by coach Appiah to reach his required 23-man squad for June’s tournament in Brazil.

But Sumaila says he will be joining the Black Stars squad with the mentality of working hard to secure his place.

“I am happy but I am not coming into the team to relax,” he told Metro FM.

“There is still some work to be done to ensure I make the final squad for the World Cup.

“I believe in my qualities and I know that if I do well, I will make the final squad.”
