Ghana defender Jonathan Mensah says a positive attitude at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil in June will help them improve on their quarter-final showing at the previous competition.

The France-based centre-back says the Black Stars can achieve the unthinkable at the World Cup in June if they manage to advance from the 'Group of Death'.

The 23-year-old was a key part of the team that reached the last eight of the competition in South Africa in 2010 but he is aware that the Black Stars face a daunting task in this tournament.

That is because they have been drawn in a difficult Group G where they play Germany, Portugal and United States which has been described as the 'Group of Death'.

Mensah says with the right mental approach, the Black Stars will advance from the group to and cause some more surprises in world football.

"We have to go with the mentality to better our quarter-final finish in 2010," the France-based defender who plays for Evian, said.

"We have to carefully negotiate making it out of the group and then anything can happen."

Ghana will open their World Cup campaign in June by taking on USA, Germany and Portugal.
